As of now there is nothing that we can do to keep people from lying or over-exagerrating in their ratings. I don't see what would be the motivation behind it and I would guess that most cases would be the result of a difference of opinion rather than a false statement. However, in such a case, we do have forums on the website where landlords can say whatever they want in response to ratings. As of now, that's the best we can do.

This is no different than any forum, rating site, or for that matter, word of mouth. You sound surprised to hear that there is no protection against libel other than the fact that landlords are permitted to respond to potential negative ratings. The website encourages people to post opinions about their renting experience with a landlord. I don't really see any reason for a person to lie about such experiences but if you have some solution to protect against anyone who lies, I am all ears.
