I have the domain planr.org and wanted to use it for a volunteer networking and planning site. The are various volunteer organizations in the world, each with multiple chapters in various cities. Take for example, the organization, Asha for India, which hosts fund-raising events to provide education for poor children in India. In each city, volunteers are involved in planning events in their local communities, but also have some form of inter-city/chapter communication either to bounce ideas off of each other, or simply to see what other chapters are up to. Typically, organizations such as Asha for India use group mailing lists for communication and planning. However, with planr.org, I want to revolutionize the way volunteers communicate with each other, and network with other volunteers from other chapters as well as other organizations. So, planr.org has 2 aspects: Networking & Planning.
When a user first signs up, he or she will be asked to see if the organization or group that they are a part of already exists. If it does, they have the option to join the group, and select the specific chapter/city that they are a part of. If not, they can create the group, and start inviting members from their chapter. Once signed on, their profile view would list the organizations that they are a part of, and their network would consist of other volunteers in the chapter. They can then navigate to other chapters, and view and contact their members.
The crux of the site is the ability to post events. For each event, there is the planning aspect: To Dos (which can be assigned to users), Discussions, RSVP (who's coming, who's not, how many volunteers are needed, etc), Event information (including maps, contact info, etc), File sharing, Photos and Videos.
In essence, if you are member of volunteer organization, planr.org is your gateway to plan events, network with other volunteers, and easily find volunteering opportunities. A map view in the front page could serve to show all volunteers signed up on planr.org. Now that Google Sites is up, I was also thinking of a way to tap into their API if needed. planr.org is a hybrid of idealist.org (volunteers), linkedin.com (networking), upcoming.org (events), and basecamp.com (planning).
I am also looking to teaming up with anyone who may be interested, and is experienced with .NET technologies.
